About Intentional Wellness Chiropractic

Healing naturally in Atascadero, California

Integrating ancient wisdom and modern therapies for holistic well-being and vibrant living.

At Intentional Wellness Chiropractic, Dr. Cook, D.C. believes wellness is not a quick fix — it’s a relationship with your body, your breath, and your ability to move through life with freedom. This clinic was created as a space where care is gentle, intentional, and deeply personalized, supporting the whole person rather than chasing symptoms.

Rooted in non-force chiropractic, functional medicine, and longevity-based mobility, Dr. Cook’s approach honors the body’s innate intelligence and its natural ability to heal when given the right support.

Mission & Values

My mission is to guide patients back into balance, mobility, and ease — physically, mentally, and emotionally.

I value:

  • Whole-body wellness that considers lifestyle, nutrition, movement, and nervous system health

  • Curiosity & education, empowering patients to understand their bodies

  • Mobility & longevity, so you can continue doing what you love for years to come

  • Compassionate, patient-centered care that meets you where you are

Healing is not about force — it’s about alignment, trust, and gentle guidance.

The Three Pillars of Thriving Health

Breath

The Autonomic Foundation of Healing

Breath is the single most vital force sustaining life — operating ceaselessly without conscious thought. It is the only automatic system we can consciously override at any time. If we had to manually control it every second, survival would be impossible. Yet we rarely consider it — until the body begins to struggle.

Emerging research continues to reveal breath’s profound influence on the autonomic nervous system, stress regulation, inflammation, and overall resilience. When breath is dysfunctional, the nervous system remains in a heightened stress response, limiting healing and performance.

In my patient care model, breath is the first pillar. By restoring conscious breathing patterns, we regulate the nervous system at its core — creating the internal environment necessary for repair, recovery, and long-term vitality.

Mobility

The Gateway to Freedom and Thriving

Mobility is freedom. Without it, life becomes restricted — not only physically, but emotionally and socially. When we begin organizing our lives around what our bodies can tolerate instead of what we desire to do, we move from thriving to merely surviving.

Research consistently shows that maintaining mobility reduces chronic disease risk, preserves independence, lowers fall rates, improves mental health, and can reduce major mobility disability by up to 28% through moderate exercise interventions.

Decline accelerates when we lose our primal movement patterns — squatting, lunging, carrying, pushing, pulling, and purposeful walking — the very patterns our bodies were designed for.

Mobility is the second essential pillar in my model of care. Through non-force chiropractic adjustments, movement assessments, strength and balance training, and rebuilding natural patterns, we protect your independence and expand your capacity to live fully — not just function adequately.

Connection & Community

The Third Essential Pillar of Thriving Health

Connection is not optional for long-term health — it is foundational.

The Harvard Study of Adult Development, spanning nearly 90 years, identified meaningful relationships as the strongest predictor of happiness, health, and longevity — surpassing genetics, income, IQ, and even cholesterol levels. Social connection increases survival odds by up to 50%, while isolation increases premature death risk comparably to smoking.

Connection reduces inflammation, protects against heart disease and dementia, improves resilience, and strengthens emotional well-being. Without meaningful relationships, we do not truly thrive.

Connection is the third pillar in my care model. At Intentional Wellness in Atascadero, this is cultivated through group classes, workshops, women’s circles, one-on-one care, and shared community experiences. My goal is to help you build a supportive environment — a “right tribe” — where accountability, encouragement, and genuine connection reinforce long-term health and purpose.

Together, we cultivate not just longevity — but meaningful longevity.

Meet Dr. Mikah Cook, D.C.

Dr. Mikah Cook’s path into healing began early — not in a clinic, but through movement. At age 12, she discovered running as a way to process life, build resilience, and connect with her body. That relationship with movement quickly evolved into a lifelong fascination with how the body heals, adapts, and thrives.

Her journey led her through:

  • Personal training in her early twenties

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Fitness, Nutrition, and Health from San Diego State University

  • Deep study of yoga and Ayurveda, including trainings with Dr. Vasant Lad

Ayurveda became foundational to her philosophy, shaping her belief that true healing begins from within — supporting the body with proper nourishment, structure, and balance.

Eventually, every thread of her life pointed toward chiropractic care. Dr. Cook earned her Doctorate of Chiropractic from Palmer College in December 2020, where she was mentored in Directional Non-Force Technique (DNFT) — the same gentle technique that profoundly impacted her own health years earlier.

Dr. Cook believes healing is not something done to you, but something you learn to live into. When the body isn’t functioning optimally, we lose freedom — freedom of movement, joy, and presence. Her work is about restoring that freedom so patients can return to the activities, passions, and rhythms that make life meaningful.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Cook is a mother of two teenagers, a devoted dog mom, an adventurer at heart, and currently training for a Spartan race. She deeply values connection, music, movement, and the quiet beauty of everyday moments — values that naturally weave into her care.
